Hon. Ellen Leesfield (Ret.) has been arbitrating with an emphasis in the areas of Healthcare, specifically Complex Payor/Payee disputes; Employer/ Employee disputes; Maritime cases including Injured seaman disputes /ship construction defect disputes; Partnership/Joint Venture disputes; Ellen was selected for the International Arbitration Panel and has heard cases involving Viet Nam, Uruguay, Canada, and between numerous other foreign countries.
Ellen has mediated numerous Employer/ Employee cases; Franchise disputes; Complex commercial partnerships and partnership break-ups (doctors and businesses), intellectual property, Breach of Contract; Investment and building contract disputes, as well as medical malpractice and personal injury disputes. Numerous Maritime disputes.
Appointed by the Complex Business Court to be a Special Master for a period of over eight months in a civil “Rico”, billing and breach of contract dispute with “conflict of interest and bad faith” allegations involving an Indian Tribe. Has also presided as a special master over franchise cases and umpire on several hurricane damage construction cases.
Her most recent International Business dispute involved a Korean textile manufacturer operating in Viet Nam being sued by a U.S. Corporation for interference in their relationship with a Canadian Company. Arbitrated a Fraud claim between a citizen of Uruguay and an American and Uruguayan Company; a Maritime business dispute between a Virgin Island resident (and their vessel) and a U.S. citizen, in addition to numerous “Injured seaman cases” from countries such as Nicaragua, Managua, Macedonia and the Dominican Republic.
